Choosing the right Nursery Tree

When looking for a tree, look for a nursery that stands behind its trees. A nursery is only as good as the quality of its young trees. A planting begun with poor-quality trees may never recover. At Tate's we make sure all of our trees are the highest quality and will thrive in your yard, which is why we offer the purchase of a warranty on every tree.
Planning the Proper Location
Verify the trees you are ordering grow in the tree hardiness zone that you are planting them in. Also consider the tree's height and spread at maturity - will it affect other landscaping? How fast will it grow? Will it affect power lines? Trees are not temporary, which makes it important to plan their location. Although we do provide tree moving services, tree moving will not be necessary if you plan ahead!
Tree Qualities
Avoid trees that may be planted too deeply in their containers. The root crown, the flared area at the base of the tree where the roots meet the trunk, should be about one inch above the soil surface. If it is not, the tree may be susceptible to crown rot. Look for a tree that has a fairly straight trunk with branches spread symmetrically around the trunk and up and down the tree. Inspect the trunk to make sure it does not have any wounds such as improper pruning cuts, sunburned bark, cracks in the bark, or signs of insects. We inspect all of our trees to ensure they will thrive for you with the proper care!
